Azor I was the parun of the Azorius Senate. Historically considered one of the first lawmages, perhaps even the creator of such magics, Azor was a champion of civil order and the rule of law, and supposedly possessed an understanding of legal matters unfathomable on ancient Ravnica. He put his brilliant mind to the test when, recognizing the growing anarchy and threat of conflict that would likely tear the world apart, he laid out his plans for a powerful binding spell that would ensure a balance of power among Ravnica’s ten greatest factions: the Guildpact.
Though Azor was the one who drafted the bulk of the Guildpact, it took negotiations with the remaining nine guilds to finally enact a solid foundation for the magic. Thus, Azor made compromise a key, and for ten-thousand years his greatest work held sway over the growth and change of the plane. Legends say that Azor was more wise than some gave him credit for – that he knew that there might be a flaw in the Guildpact’s design that even he could not have foreseen, and came up with countermeasures and contingency plans that have long since been lost to history.
